Direction Detection

Automatically determine whether items are entering or leaving — every time.

Overview

A gate that only knows an asset passed — not which way — gives you half the picture. Direction Detection uses multi-antenna zone configuration to automatically determine inbound or outbound direction: two antenna zones read in sequence, and direction is locked in after 1.5 seconds of inactivity. 99.9% accuracy, fully automatic.

The Problem

Knowing that a pallet moved through a gate is useful. Knowing whether it entered or left your facility is essential. Without direction, you cannot maintain accurate location records at boundaries — you just know something changed.

Workflow

Step-by-step: how this use case works in the Loccuro operator app.

  1. 1
    Configure antenna zones
Assign antennas to two zones: "inside" and "outside" (or "entry" and "exit"). A minimum of two antennas is required.
  2. 2
    Tag approaches
As an item approaches the gate, the first zone's antenna reads the tag and opens a detection session.
  3. 3
    Tag crosses second zone
The second zone reads the same tag. The system records the sequence: which zone fired first, which second.
  4. 4
    Direction locked
After 1.5 seconds of inactivity — no further reads — the direction is confirmed based on zone sequence: first-zone-to-second-zone = the direction of travel.
  5. 5
    Event logged
Full detection record written: tag identity, confirmed direction (inbound/outbound), timestamp, antenna IDs and RSSI values.
