BLE Tracking

Track assets via Bluetooth where UHF RFID coverage is not practical.

Cold storageOutdoor yardsMixed environmentsHostile environments

Overview

Some environments — cold stores, humid facilities, outdoor yards, shielded rooms — limit UHF RFID range and reliability. BLE Tracking uses Bluetooth Low Energy beacons to fill those gaps, feeding the same location and movement infrastructure as RFID. Same dashboard, same audit trail, same operator app — just a different signal protocol where it is needed.

The Problem

No single wireless technology covers every environment perfectly. Metal shelving, liquid products, extreme temperatures and RF-noisy environments all degrade RFID performance. Organisations with mixed environments need an alternative that works within the same tracking system.

Workflow

Step-by-step: how this use case works in the Loccuro operator app.

  1. 1
    Attach BLE beacons
Affix Bluetooth Low Energy beacons to assets that need to be tracked in RFID-challenging environments.
  2. 2
    Configure BLE readers
Install BLE readers at zone boundaries, entry/exit points or key tracking locations.
  3. 3
    Automatic detection
Readers log presence events whenever a beacon comes within range — no operator action required.
  4. 4
    View in Loccuro
BLE events appear in the same dashboard as RFID events — location, timestamp, signal strength.
  5. 5
    Same audit trail
All BLE events are stored identically to RFID events — fully searchable, reportable and exportable.
